Making Butter - First Grade Style

As part of our Thanksgiving studies, we decided to "go old school" and made our own butter.  We added 16 oz. of heavy whipping cream to a glass jar and started shaking.  The first step to the process resulted in whipped cream.  Unfortunately, that wasn't what we ordered, so we continued to shake.  The end result was delicious homemade butter!!

A Visit from BP Fire Department

Since October is Fire Prevention Month the students were treated to an up close and personal visit from two of the Bethel Park Fire Department firefighters.  Firefighter Lee and Firefighter Eva showed the first grade students their gear and one of the BPFD firetrucks.  We were honored that they took the time to visit with us and share what they do on a volunteer basis.

Is it a bird, is it a plane...?

No, it is our first grade friends that have Superhero Swag. The students got on their “Superhero Swag” and practiced editing sentences. They checked to see that each sentence ‘Started' with a capital letter, was ‘Written’ neatly, had ‘A’ space between each word and the sentence had been ‘Given’ punctuation. We also reviewed that each sentence must have the words in the correct order for the sentence to make sense.

GoNoodle

You may hear your student talk about GoNoodle –a fun website we use to move throughout our school day. Kids wiggle. GoNoodle gets the wiggles out, so we can keep on learning. GoNoodle gives us over 100 physical activity videos and games – including dancing, running, jumping, stretching, deep breathing, and more - and helps students channel their abundant energy. After we take a quick break with GoNoodle, we’re better able to focus on learning.

Check out Room 104!!
